Introductory Training Projects

Since 1995 Music as Therapy has run 17 of our six-week introductory training projects.  Each of these projects has involved a partnership between Music as Therapy and a local care setting in Romania, with the support of the local authority responsible for each setting.  These have included hospitals, institutions, modernised care homes, schools and day centres in 7 of the judeti (counties) in Romania.  Please send an e-mail if you would like a full list of these projects.

Each project has been delivered by a professional music therapist and an 'assistant'.  The music therapist leads the project while the assistant, usually someone with relevant experience who is keen to learn more about music therapist, offers vital help and support.  To find out more about these roles and our need for volunteers, follow the links to Recruitment.

The Music as Therapy team join forces with the local workers and spend time understanding what is currently available to the children or adults in the host Centre.  They then devise a timetable and suitable musical activities so that they will be able to demonstrate in practice the potential of music used in a therapeutic way.

A Staff Workshop

A project won't train the workers to become music therapists, but it will leave our Romanian partners equipped with a new resource.  The expectation on delivering this resource is simply that the Romanian worker will be able to draw upon it, adapt it and use it to benefit the clients in their care.  By the end of the collaboration our Romanian partners will have the resources (donated musical instruments), the experience and the confidence to keep a music programme running in their Centre into the future.  Music as Therapy then offer a variety of support projects to help them sustain this (Follow the links to Support Projects to find out more about these).

Music-making in 2006

In 2006, a project was received by Casa Luminii’ (an NGO Day Centre) and The Community Services Complex for Children with Severe Disabilities, both in Sibiu.
