When Music as Therapy began working in Romania in 1995,
our core activity was the provision of Introductory Music
Therapy Training Projects which equipped local staff with the
skills, experience, materials and confidence to run music
programmes addressing the psychological, emotional, social and
behavioural difficulties experienced by the adults and children
in their care.
In time we added to this a number of Support Projects, designed
to help our Local Partners maintain their commitment to this
difficult work and to add to their skills in this field. We
have tried to adapt and extend these Support Projects to meet
the changing needs of our Local Partners as reform has impacted
on the Care System across the country.
One exciting aspect of our direct involvement in Romania has
been the way in which it has influenced music therapy practice
internationally. Music as Therapy is now often called
upon to share its recognised good practice and consult on
related projects.
The Advisory Panel of Music Therapists met in January 2008 to
reflect on the past year's activities, to consider pending
proposals and to discuss the way forward for Music as Therapy
in 2008. Their recommendations, translated into tangible
activities approved by the Trustees, are detailed in this
section of our website.
The strategic planning of the Advisory Panel is detailed in a
full report, please send us an
e-mail if you would like to receive a copy.
